231 pound halibut
One day just an ordinary construction worker from Kansas took a unplanned fishing trip up into Alaska. Just an hour into his free chartered fishing trip Dirk Whitsitt hooked a 231 pound halibut. Dirk dropped a line in at 370 feet of water and after minutes the monster hoped on and he was in for a fight of his life. It took Dirk 45 minutes to reel it in and after it got to the surface it decided to dive back down again. The crew ended up using a gun to get the beast back into the boat. Dirk decided to keep the trophy fish, but it was no record for those waters.
